Description
"Sanni Yakuma" is a traditional Sinhalese exorcism ritual deeply rooted in Sri Lanka's ancient shamanic traditions. This ritual comprises masked dance ritual, which features 18 masks each portraying a ailment/disease. The name originates from "sanniya," meaning disease, and "yakuma," denoting demon ritual. within the ritual there is a mask which is the the amalgamated form of all 18 ailments, the "Makahola", meaning "greater ailment". this mask is the inspiration for creating this artwork
