Description
The Lagoon Nebula (Messier 8), is a striking emission nebula situated within the constellation of Sagittarius. It is characterised by its intricate, ethereal appearance and is often the heart of most landscape astrophotography photographs.
At its heart lies a star cluster, which bathes the surrounding hydrogen gas in brilliant ultraviolet radiation, causing the nebula to glow with vibrant red and pink hues. Intricate dark lanes, sculpted by interstellar winds and radiation, wind through the nebula, giving it its distinctive lagoon-like look.
