Description
My husband and I love going to new countries and getting lost in the sights and culture. Our 2-week trips are usually planned over a period of 6 months’ time. We research abandoned places and then plot approximately 100 of our favorites onto a digital map. When we arrive to the country we will explore, we are on the move from sunrise to sunset. Sometimes we spend a day or two in big cities, but we spend most of our time in small towns because that is where the abandonments are, and that is where we can avoid tourists, connect with locals, and eat deliciously authentic foods. That’s why it was no surprise that this château sits lost in the beautiful countryside of central France. As the castle came into view, we were driving along a surprisingly busy country road, and there was no good place to park our car. There was a tiny little grass covered trail that we could park on, but it was right outside the château, and we didn’t want to draw attention to ourselves. I will never forget this place, because my husband and I drove up and down that stretch of highway five times, back and forth, trying to find a good place to park. It took us forever because cars were flying up behind us, and it didn’t feel safe. But finally, there was a break in traffic, and we spotted a tiny dirt patch beside a railway track. We parked the car, walked back to the castle and sent our drones up. We were blessed with amazing cloud-cover that day, and the castle looked like it belonged in a fairytale. Before we left, I took a moment to breathe it all in. There are just some places that are so magical, you can’t help but get lost in them.
