Description
On the way to this château, in a tiny village in southern France, we saw a little old man on the side of the road waving at us. We stopped to see if he was okay. He didn’t speak any English, but we figured out he needed a ride somewhere. We didn’t know where and hoped it wasn’t far, but we helped him into the car. He was so sweet. He tried to communicate in French and Italian, but we didn’t understand. So, he then communicated by pointing, and we dropped him off 10 minutes away in the next little town. Once he was safe, and on his way, we circled back towards the chateau. We parked the car on the side of the road near a hiking trail and began walking up the big hill toward it. The sky was dark, and it started to rain on us. I was upset. How would we fly the drones in the rain? I was unsure what was inside the castle, as we had never seen any photos of the inside, so if we couldn’t shoot the outside, it might be a waste. As we continued to climb, it continued to rain, and we heard rumbles of thunder in the distance. Finally, the château came into view. It was the perfect fairytale castle. Because it was still raining, we looked for a way inside to take shelter for a while, hoping the rain would let up. Luckily, there was a door open. The castle was nothing but an empty shell. There was spray paint everywhere, and you could tell scrappers had gone through and ripped open walls looking for precious metals. My husband ventured upstairs, and as I started up the stairs behind him, a bat started swooping around my head. It startled me, and I figured there wasn’t going to be anything interesting up there, so I stayed by the door. When my husband came back down, he confirmed there was nothing of interest. By this time, the rain had let up and only a light mist remained. We were able to send up the drones for 10 minutes, before it started to rain heavily again. We had just enough time to get our shots. We walked back down the hill in the rain and when we were back in the car, I said to my husband that karma was working in our favor. We took 10 minutes to help an elderly man in need, and then in return, we got 10 minutes to shoot the château.
