Captured in 35mm film in rural Iceland.
An abandoned home stands alone on a lush hillside at the edges of a National Park. I pulled over and parked at the end of the overgrown driveway, and made my way up to the house. The grass blew gently as a warm breeze swept over the landscape, and the house's white exterior stood brightly against a clear blue sky.
This ancient relic was filled with old newspapers, many dating back to the 1950s. The condition of the structure was surprisingly sound, with no vandalism or excessive damage to be found. I was puzzled by such a place was left abandoned in such an idyllic setting.
I like to believe that the original owner of this place lived a peaceful life in the countryside, and simply grew old in this beautiful home. Now, it stands as a reminder of a bygone era and will continue to do so until the elements reclaim the land.
