Description
October: when the chill wakes us to a higher spiritual awareness. A time of harvest and preservation, this month is when we begin to spend more time inside in reflection than outside in experience. Towards the month’s end comes a rumored visitation by those who’ve passed on to other realms. While some spirits are welcomed by their descendants as a blessing, others are feared and have a more dire agenda and must be fooled or placated with sweets: the excuse for a night of masquerade, which, while concealing identity, may afford a chance to expose truths about oneself obscured the rest of the year.

This piece by Maneki Neko is part of a series of an open edition for each month of 2023. It was created through experimentation with the AI tools Midjourney and Stable Diffusion in multiple iterations of combinations of prompts and settings to produce hundreds of floral synthographs. The best of these images were curated and upscaled with Stable Diffusion to bring out even more details and finished with color and fine detail editing in Photoshop.
