Description
My U.S. arrival in 2011 offered a global viewpoint on my Chinese roots and an approach grounded in reconstruction. The diaspora created a disconnection from China, yet my digital training helped bridge cultural gaps, highlighting the universality inherent in the digital sphere.
In this project named "De Shan Shui," my aim is to view the past through the lens of the present, with a particular emphasis on the Chinese art tradition known as "Transmission by Copying". Emulating and employing traditional methods serve as the pivotal concepts in the creation of Shan Shui paintings.
Utilizing my trio of self-developed algorithms, I transform raw elements from original Shan Shui paintings into novel pixel and color compositions. These algorithms, serving as my tools, employ computational equations to reconstruct and generate new artworks. This digital approach embraces universalism, repetition, randomness, and effortless-action as key techniques.
