Collection 08 - “Le Clos Sainte-Sophie”
Located at the entrance of Montgueux, the Clos Sainte-Sophie is where Charles Apollinaire Baltet, a famous horticulturist, welcomed two Japanese apprentices in 1876 and 1877. They were sent by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture to learn vine cultivation and pruning techniques. They returned with around a hundred vine plants, which were used to establish the first Japanese vineyard in Yamanashi, near Mount Fuji. They produced a wine named "Crû de Troyes" in Katsunuma.
