The Everlasting Glitchstopper
Description
On January 28, 2019, I found myself at Industry City in Brooklyn, a hub of reclaimed industrial spaces transformed into vibrant centers of commerce. It's a place I frequent, drawn to its blend of old-world charm and modern creativity.
Captivated by the surroundings, I captured images of the weathered buildings and, for the first time, snapped a photo of a pedestrian crossing sign. I couldn't resist experimenting, glitching the building and superimposing the walking figure atop it. The result was captivating; it seemed as though the figure was breaking free from its confines.
At the same time, I was in a rediscovery phase of REM and I stumbled upon "Walk Unafraid." Its title perfectly encapsulated the spirit of liberation embodied by the walking figure in my piece.
"Walk Unafraid" quickly became a personal favorite, a symbol of breaking free from constraints. Initially created as a still glitch, it made its debut at my gallery show at Estudio Brooklyn in June 2022. By then, I had begun animating my glitches and incorporating augmented reality into my work. To feature it in the show, I crafted an animation using the glitch as a starting point.
As I dove into the world of NFTs, I found myself pondering the fate of certain pieces, including "Walk Unafraid." It holds immense sentimental value for me, and I was unsure of its digital destiny.
Enter The Everlasting Glitchstopper. When contemplating the inaugural piece for this project, "Walk Unafraid" stood out as the natural choice. As I embark on a 50-year journey of artistic exploration and self-discovery, I invite you to join me in embracing the uncomfortable. Let's walk unafraid together and discover where this path leads us.
