Description
"Punk Invaders" is both a Conceptual Art-Work and a Game, blurring the lines between both by fusing the two together. It highlights the historical connection between the visual language of Pixel-Art used to create CryptoPunks, and early Video-Game aesthetics, which first put Pixel-Art on the map on a massive global scale. The explosion and consequent proliferation of Video Games starting in the late 70's, has since inspired entire generations of creators and digital artists, including the very creators of CryptoPunks, who 'grew up playing 8-Bit games'.
"Punk Invaders" also explores CryptoPunks' place in Art-history by taking them through a fanciful journey through various historical movements and genres by placing them in multiple canonical Art-works. This juxtaposition forces the viewer to consider how our understanding of what Art is and could be has evolved and expanded, specifically through considering genres that were initially maligned if not outright rejected, only to be gradually accepted, celebrated and eventually revered over time.
