Galatea Reborn by PsyU Girls
Description
"Galatea Reborn" is an art project that reimagines the Greek myth of Pygmalion in a modern light. In the ancient fable, a sculptor, frustrated by human flaws, crafts the “perfect woman” out of white Ivory and names her Galatea. Seeing his devotion, the gods bless the artist by bringing his creation to life. In this contemporary retelling, “Galatea” transcends feminine beauty to embody desire itself, blurring the lines between race, gender, human emotion, and mechanical precision. Created by a team of film and design university students in S. Korea, the “PsyU” collective blends computer animation, hand sketching, and recent AI-driven techniques to craft their very own “Galatea”, exploring technology as both a medium, art form, and object of power. Through intimate encounters between humans and their mechanical companions, this collection of 42 “Film Stills” invites viewers to construct their own narrative—and possible consequences—of a world where the boundary between creator and creation is constantly being molded.
