Chehel Minbari is one of the customs that is performed in different cities of Iran, especially in Khorramabad on the day of Tasu'a. (the ninth day of Muharram)
Early in the morning, the women and girls (sometimes men) with bare feet and covered faces and fasting of silence, start walking in the city. They light their candles in 40 houses and put a sugar cube there. In the 40th house, they take a sugar cube from there in the hope that their needs will be met in the coming year.
