1968 Mexican Olympics Medal Ceremony Protest
Even though this protest of Tommie Smith and John Carlos caused the end of their sports lives, it remained in the memory of the world as a memory that will never be forgotten even after years pass. With the eyes of the whole world on them, they would protest racism and related poverty in the world. The protest began when two black athletes wearing leather gloves raised their gloved hands into the air and made fists, just as the American anthem was being sung. In that photo, humanity won. With the cooperation of brave and honorable blacks and brave and honorable whites, racism was condemned.
