<p>'Redeemed' - Copyright 2024 SuperRare Genesis</p><p>created by DrainedEye, aka Jason Sanders</p><p>This artwork originally was created as a physical painting in Rio de Janeiro during the 2024 Selkie Rio Art Residency.</p><p>Before leaving for the residency I was given advice by a friend to think about creating something new, branching out, getting out of my comfort zone.</p><p>As I contemplated his words, I began imagining a type of painting that was made up of many different elements. I conceptualized breaking up the physical paint strokes that make up my trademark skulls and using them in different ways in this new type of painting. I began categorizing different iconography that I have used over the years and a very loose plan began to emerge.</p><p>In practice this painting came to me gradually, but actually quite quickly. It began with the theme of love and was heavily influenced conceptually by the colors of paint that I had available to me. The juxtaposition of warm and cool colors carries through to the themes I explored in the painting.</p><p>The beautiful city of Rio is represented as well as my home town of Philadelphia and the physical journey from home to this beautiful exotic location is a compelling metaphor for the internal journey of healing that has honed my artistic voice.</p><p>That original painting was in a 2:3 aspect ratio, and for my SuperRare Genesis Drop, I wanted to offer an artwork in the 16:9 aspect ratio. To accomplish this, I digitally recreated the artwork by hand in Procreate, very carefully separating out each element and intentionally animating certain ones to elevate the emotion of the piece. This ended up being quite challenging, but the end result is so rewarding. I'm thrilled with how it came out and I appreciate you taking an interest in my artwork!</p>
