Description
In 2016 I received a call from an unknown number while at my girlfriends apartment in Arizona, it was a detective. He told me Ms. "redacted" had been discovered dead in her home. My grandmother was in her 80s at the time with failing health so I had thought he was referring to her and as I was asking questions and processing the news, he said it was one of her dog group friends that found her body and It didn't make sense to me since my grandma didn't have a dog. He then stopped me to ask me if I knew who he was talking about, If I knew he was talking about Nina. In that moment I screamed, It was a bone chilling sound that shook my girlfriend and the detective both to their cores. I immediately began sobbing uncontrollably and couldn't speak or understand anything else that was said. I refused to believe it was even real. He suggested I call crisis line and talk to them If I needed to. After that call my entire world changed. It broke me down completely in a way I never thought I would recover from. Nina was my adopted mother, and the single most important person in my life and now she was dead and I could't even imagine my life without her. I wish I never got that phone call.
